Create a custom view

What are Custom Views?

There are three types of views available in Kintone Apps:

  • List Views
  • Calendar Views
  • Custom Views

These views provide different ways to display data. Follow the instructions on the Creating Views  page of the Kintone Help for information on how to create new views.

Unlike the List View and the Calendar View, the Custom View allows users to create a rich, flexible view by allowing the specification of the HTML contents that this view will show.

How are Custom Views created?

Navigate to the App settings, and click on the View tab. Click the [+] button to create a new view, and choose the Custom View as the view type.

This page contains the following information and settings:

  • View ID
The unique ID given to the view.
  • Enable pagination
An option to help users get record list information via JavaScript. This option can be ignored for this tutorial.
  • HTML Code
Allows custom HTML codes to be written for the view.
  • Filter and Sort
Another option to helps users get record information via JavaScript. Can also be ignored for this tutorial.

To create a Custom View, enter some HTML into the HTML Code option.
As an example, copy and paste the following code into the code box.

Save the view, and apply the changes to the App. The custom view will be added to the list of views. Select the view from the dropdown to display the custom view.

The Custom View creates a blank view, filled in with HTML data that was written in the HTML Code settings. Notice how the record list data is not yet included in this view - our other Custom View tutorials will go through how to display the record list data in a Custom view.

<script> tags

The Custom view does not support <script> tags. If <script> tags were included in the HTML code, they will be ignored when the custom view is loaded. To run JavaScript in a Custom view, the JavaScript and CSS customization settings must be used.

Space/Thread bodies

The Custom view is not available for the Attach App function of Space/Thread bodies, and will not appear on the list of views for the App.
